Then and Now (something old something new) tells the story of Sonya Sanchez Arias’s journey and point of view as a 6th generation Trinidadian moving from one multi-racial and culturally diverse island to a new and equally diverse experience in South Florida. It incorporates the wisdom and experience of all ancestors, both hers and others, through things they left behind. Each piece in this body of work will incorporate something old and vintage from then with something newly created with digital art and present-day technology to celebrate the now. These mixed media assemblages made from found and recycled objects, old historical and vintage photographs, and modern digitally collaged portraits simultaneously contrast and merge together.
