5 Ways to Celebrate Haitian Heritage Month in The Palm  Beaches

May is Haitian Heritage Month, a special time to celebrate Haiti’s vibrant culture, unique art, and delicious cuisine. Here are a few ways to mark the month while learning more about its people, traditions, and heritage in Palm Beach County.

Palm Beach County Library Haitian Heritage Celebration Series
The Palm Beach County Library System is offering nine events throughout the month of May at several branch locations, including a special family day, movie screening, and a drum circle. Be sure to check out its Haitian Cultural Collection at the Lantana Road Branch, which features books for children, teens, and adults written in French, Kreyòl, and English about Haiti and its history, people, culture, and arts.

Jean Caze Presents Haitian Jazz at Arts Garage
Experience the vibrant fusion of jazz and Haitian rhythms with acclaimed Haitian American trumpeter, composer, and conch shell performer Jean Caze on Friday, May 15, from 8 to 10 p.m. at Arts Garage in Delray Beach. Caze and his dynamic six-piece band perform original music from his Kreyol Djazz Suite, filled with soulful melodies, infectious grooves, and masterful improvisation. Tickets range from $55.50 to $60.50.

Haitian Heritage Month Creative Arts Panel
The Lantana Public Library is hosting a creative arts panel on Monday, May 18 at 7 p.m., featuring multimedia journalist Wilkine Brutus, filmmaker and animator Amarise DeFranco, and visual artist Mikael Semexant. The first 50 guests will receive complimentary fusion cuisine from Fin’s Kitchen Food Truck.

Haitian Heritage Community Event
On Tuesday, May 19, from 5 to 9 p.m., celebrate Haitian Heritage Month with food, live performances, art, and family-friendly activities at Lake Worth Community High School. Dress in red and blue and join a vibrant community event honoring Haitian culture, history, and pride.

Preserve Voices
The Cultural Council is hosting Preserve Voices on Wednesday, May 20 from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. Led by multimedia journalist Wilkine Brutus, Preserve Voices is a storytelling and history preservation workshop designed to teach participants the art of the interview, specifically how to interview and document their parents and loved ones. Preserve Voices is free and open to the public; however, we ask you to RSVP.
