For three weeks starting Saturday, December 19, visitors to the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County galleries will be treated to a special preview of “The Art of Dr. Seuss,” the highly anticipated art exhibition that will have its Florida premiere at The Gardens Mall starting January 17.
From December 19 through January 14, the Cultural Council will display three works from the delightful exhibition including illustrations for “Sam I Am” and “Thing 1 and Thing 2,” plus one of the wackiest and most wonderful elements of the collection — Dr. Seuss’ three-dimensional “Unorthodox Taxidermy” sculpture of “The Two-Horned Drouberhannis.” Also included in the preview is the sketch of a costume rendering, by Jenna Hoefert, from the upcoming Maltz Jupiter Theatre production of “SEUSSICALTM.”
The Cultural Council presents this preview to the first-of-its-kind in Florida exhibition at The Gardens Mall in conjunction with the Ann Jackson Gallery of Atlanta, Georgia. The exhibition features compelling selections of artworks and sculptures from “The Art of Dr. Seuss,” works from Dr. Seuss’ best-known children’s books and “The Secret Art of Dr. Seuss,” a mind-expanding collection based on decades of artwork that Dr. Seuss created personally.
The Gardens Mall exhibition will be free and open to the public from January 18 through February 14. Not only is this a rare opportunity to view and learn about the artistic legacy of Theodor Seuss Geisel, one of the most significant American icons of our time, but also a portion of the proceeds from all exhibition sales will go to the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County to continue its mission to support the arts in Palm Beach County.
Additionally during the exhibition, “SEUSSICAL™” (excerpts from the upcoming production at Maltz Jupiter Theatre) will be performed at The Gardens Mall. The Gardens Mall performances and exhibition are free and open to the public.
The Gardens Mall will host a ticketed kickoff cocktail reception beginning at 6 p.m. on January 17 for the first of the public to view “The Art of Dr. Seuss” collection. Guests will mix and mingle with light bites and cocktails as they enjoy a performance at 7 p.m. from Maltz Jupiter Theatre. Tickets can be purchased for $35 from the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the Cultural Council at palmbeachculture.com/seuss.
