Category B and Category C-II grants will continue to spur cultural tourism in Palm Beach County

LAKE WORTH BEACH, Fla. (July 20, 2021) – The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County’s board of directors announces the approval of $4,486,750 in grants to 38 cultural organizations in Palm Beach County for fiscal year 2022. This year’s awards are more than $1.4 Million greater than last year’s Category B and C-II grant programs, a demonstration of the Palm Beach County Tourist Development Council’s (TDC) commitment to supporting cultural tourism and marketing and a result of the recent increase of visitors to the destination. The TDC approved the recommendations at its board of directors meeting in July.

Category B and C-II grants are supported by bed tax revenue in coordination with the TDC and specifically designed to support cultural tourism efforts through the funding of marketing and program expenses associated with performances, exhibitions, and cultural events that drive visitors to the destination.

“Increased funding through the Tourist Development Council is key to the recovery of tourism in Palm Beach County,” said Dave Lawrence, the Cultural Council’s president & CEO. “Cultural tourism is an effective strategy and one that strengthens both our cultural sector and the tourism and hospitality industries of The Palm Beaches.” Grant award amounts are based on criteria including the organizations’ budget size, application score, available funding, and both the strength and reach of proposed marketing project(s). A qualified selection panel comprising community representatives collaboratively review and score applications based on key elements including cultural excellence, marketing impact, organization stability, and potential for growth. The Cultural Council manages this process on behalf of Palm Beach County and the TDC.
