In this interactive workshop, you will explore ways to assess arts learning and take stock of your program’s effectiveness. Mark Howard, Palm Beach County School District (PBCSD), will introduce assessment and evaluation concepts used by the School District, followed by Dr. Martha Brown, RJAE Consulting, and Samika Satterthwaite, PBCSD, who will both present and facilitate hands-on breakout sessions.

Dr. Martha A. Brown, president of RJAE Consulting, Intl., is author of “Creating Restorative Schools: Setting Schools Up to Succeed” and Lead Instructor for Simon Fraser University’s Continuing Studies online Restorative Justice Certificate Program. As a consultant, Martha assists non-profit, cultural, community-based, educational, and correctional organizations with strategic planning, assessments, monitoring implementation, and defining and measuring program outcomes. Dr. Brown received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Florida Atlantic University and is an adjunct professor in the Department of Educational Leadership and Research Methodology.
Samika Satterthwaite is currently an arts integration specialist for the School District of Palm Beach County. Satterthwaite manages a $2.1 million U.S. Department of Education Arts in Education grant that supports integrating the arts into literacy, math, science, and social studies in select Title I schools. Satterthwaite creates and develops integrated curriculum and assessments and advocates for student centered learning. Satterthwaite has presented at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts Annual Partners Meeting, the 2018 National Art Education Association’s National Convention and the Florida Alliance for Arts Education. Satterthwaite holds a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Miami in jazz studies and music business and entertainment industries with a minor in marketing. Satterthwaite also holds a Masters of Education in educational leadership from Lynn University.
