Grammy-nominated American pianist, vocalist and songwriter, Judy Carmichael, celebrates the music of Fats Waller and other swing piano greats during this evening of gems from the Great American Songbook. She also throws in a few of her own witty and well-crafted compositions. Count Basie himself nicknamed Judy “Stride”for her master of the popular walking bass style of the late Thomas “Fats” Waller, as well as James P. Johnson and Basie. That’s pretty high praise.
She’s got admirers. The New York Times says Carmichael is “astounding, flawless, captivating,” while BBC Radio states: “Judy Carmichael is a great entertainer. Her playing is masterly and her linking material show her to be a raconteur in the Ustinov mold.” And according to the London Times: “Judy is a one-woman force for good; more to the point, she’s a player of extraordinary accomplishment who has made stride piano relevant again.” Judy sings and plays piano with her talented colleague, guitarist Chris Flory.
