International Jazz Day Concert

Featuring Yvette Norwood-Tiger and her Jazz Ensemble

International jazz vocalist and recording artist, Yvette Norwood-Tiger, and her highly-acclaimed jazz ensemble, headed by pianist & musical director Rick Moore (Jupiter Jazz Society) with Burt Boice (contrabass) and Jose Roman Duque (drums). As an added bonus, special guest trumpeter Michael Mackey (senior at Dreyfoos School of the Arts) will be performing jazz standards.

Yvette Norwood-Tiger is a Detroit native who hails from a family of musicians. She performs music from great composers such as Porter, Ellington and the Gershwins, to name a few. Yvette performs vocally clean and pure jazz interpretations with her own vocal styling, emphasizing intonation and storytelling. Yvette also sings in other languages including French, Italian, Portuguese and Spanish.

She performs worldwide and has sat in several times with jazz orchestra, The Cotton Club All Stars, at the famous Cotton Club in Harlem, New York. She has also sat in with Latin music artist, Tito Puente, Jr., the late saxophonist David Fathead Newman, family members of Celine Dion and band members of Spyro Gyra – Jay Beckenstein and Tom Schuman.

Her debut CD, titled “Why Not…Love, Peace, Joy, Jazz” is a great compilation of popular jazz standards that lends the mind back to the days of the original recordings. Close your eyes while listening to Yvette sing live or on her CD and let the sultry sounds of Yvette Norwood-Tiger take you to a place where jazz was the most celebrated American music genre.
