Cellist Andrei Ioniță with pianist Naoko Sonada

Romanian cellist Andrei Ioniță (b. 1994) is hailed as “one of the most exciting cellists to have emerged for a decade” by the prestigious Times of London. In 2017 he was awarded the Gold Medal at the 2015 XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, along with prizes also at the ARD, Feuermann and Khachaturian competitions. Named a BBC New Generation Artist in 2016, Ioniță’s performances combine passionate, focused artistry with sheer technical brilliance.

Pianist Naoko Sonada joins Ioniță in downtown West Palm Beach for a recital in the sanctuary of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, hosted by the Chamber Music Society of Palm Beach. They will perform Locatelli’s Sonata in D major (arr. Piatti), Stravinsky’s Suite italienne for cello and piano, and Shostakovich’s Cello Sonata in D minor, Op. 40.
