The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County presents a special conversation on photography and feminism by 2021 Biennial curator Aldeide Delgado with artists Katie Prock and Ates Isildak. Delgado will offer insights about the Biennial concept and her curatorial vision through this compelling event, while the artists will respond to questions about their practice and recent accomplishments.

Aldeide Delgado is the founder and director of Women Photographers International Archive (WOPHA). An art historian and curator, she frequently presents on the topic of the role of women in photography at art history forums, including lectures at the Tate Modern, Perez Art Museum Miami, The New School, and California Institute of the Arts. Delgado is a recipient of a 2019 Knight Arts Challenge award, 2018 School of Art Criticism Fellowship, and a 2017 Research and Production of Critic Essay Fellowship. She is the author of the online archive Catalog of Cuban Women Photographers, as well as the namesake book. Publications where she has contributed include Cuban Art News, Artishock, Terremoto, C&America Latina, Arcadia, as well as diverse independent art blogs. She is an active member of PAMM’s International Women’s Committee, IKT International Association of Curators of Contemporary Art, US Latinx Art Forum and Art Table. In 2021, she has served as the Guest Juror/Curator of the Palm Beach Biennial and a judge for the Female in Focus Photography Awards, presented by The British Journal of Photography, The Portrait Project presented by Lucie Foundation and the Main Gallery 2021-2022 Open Call presented by Locust Project.

Katie Prock is a photographic artist and book maker. Currently, Prock is an MFA candidate at Florida Atlantic University, where she holds a graduate teaching assistantship and has been awarded the Esther Saylor Rothenberger Scholarship, the Friedland Project Grant, and a Presidential Fellowship. Her practice utilizes alternative printing techniques and incorporates handcrafted processes which emphasize chance occurrence and imperfections. Her work and research focus on topics such as identity, gender, family history, and girlhood. In addition to being exhibited across the United States, including Biblio 2020 at Art Palm Beach, Prock’s work was recently featured in the Body + Memory + City Photo Festival in Alicante, Spain.

Ates Isildak lives and works in Palm Beach County. His parents are both from Turkey. Ates Isildak received a B.A. in English Literature from University of Central Florida, and is an Alumn of Dreyfoos School of the Arts. Using short films, music videos, and photography, Ates Isildak aims to create a safe space and medium in which marginalized communities can exuberantly express themselves. He is a recipient of the 2019-2020 South Florida Cultural Consortium, third place awardee in South Florida Cultural Council’s 2021 Biennial, and is currently working on an Art In Public Places documentary for the City of West Palm Beach.
