Of all the greatest Broadway composers, only George Gershwin attracted more jazz renditions of tunes than Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart. This course will be devoted to dissecting the most outstanding compositions of Rodgers and Hart and celebrating the best jazz versions. This will lead to a greater appreciation for the freedom and creativity exerted by such jazz giants as trumpeters Miles Davis and Chet Baker, saxophonists Stan Getz and Gerry Mulligan, and pianists Bill Evans and Art Tatum.
