Kravis Center for the Performing Arts: The Broadway Artists Intensive
It’s natural that as a hub of the performing arts in Palm Beach County, the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts would host The Broadway Artists Intensive program each summer. The three week summer program is not for students dabbling in the arts, it’s for career-minded young thespians from all over the country.
The program’s artistic directors, professional actors themselves, bring in big-name talent to lead workshops throughout each week of the Intensive. Greg Graham, Jason Gillman, and Jackie Bayne focus the program on acting, voice and dance.
Tony Award winner Christian Borle led an acting workshop for dozens of students in late July, but took a break to talk with Cultural Council of Palm Beach County Director of Marketing and Government Affairs, Marilyn Bauer. “What I’ve loved about talking to them is that you could see as they’re listening that they understand that this isn’t just a lark,” Borle says of his students. “They’re here to take it very, very seriously.”
This isn’t his first time at the Kravis Center, either. “I was here for the first time in 1996,” Borle says, “I came to do West Side Story, and then again in 1999 with Footloose, and so to be back here is surreal in a way… It’s a beautiful, beautiful space.”
