The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County seeks applications from artists who identify as Hispanic or of Latin American ancestry to participate in a Main Gallery exhibition honoring Hispanic Heritage month. Artwork submitted may be any medium including: photography, video, works on paper, sculptural installations, crafts, and textiles. This exhibit will be curated by Juliana Forero, the founder of Nomad Art Projects.

Timeline

Call open for submissions on CaFé: June 17, 2022

Deadline for submissions: July 29, 2022

Notification of participation: Week of August 22nd – no later than August 26, 2022

Artwork drop off: October 17, 2022 (10:00 am to noon)

Exhibition opening: October 27, 2022 (press preview at 4:00 pm)

Exhibition: October 28, 2022 – January 14, 2023

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted from individual artists or artist collaborators who live in Palm Beach County.

Artists are invited to submit up to seven images or six audio or video files of artworks to be considered for inclusion in the Contemporary Art of the Latin American Diaspora exhibition. Artwork may be any medium including: photography, video, works on paper, sculptural installations, crafts, and textiles. Files must be no larger than 5 MB per file. Please include all artwork information (Title, Date, Dimensions, Medium, Edition, and Insurance Value). Submissions will only be accepted by the online platform CaFé.

Conditions

By submitting a proposal each participant agrees to the following conditions:

  • The applicant will receive an email notification on the status of their application no later than August 26, 2022
  • Artwork selected must be installed as described in application
  • If the artwork is not as originally proposed in application, the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County reserves the right to cancel the artist’s inclusion
  • The artist must be the sole author and owner of the copyright of all artwork entered
  • Once selected, the participant and the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County will coordinate exhibition, opening reception, artwork drop off, de-installation and pickup dates and times
  • Selected participants are responsible for the delivery and pickup of their artwork(s)
  • Participants will receive and sign a loan agreement with the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County agreeing to the dates and exhibition terms
  • To receive sales proceeds, participants must submit a W-9 for payment purposes
  • The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County has permission to photograph, videotape, and reproduce any work submitted to the exhibition for publicity purposes unless otherwise stated in writing
  • All artwork will be insured on premises as long as a list of artwork titles, descriptions, and values is presented prior to delivery on site. Artwork is not insured while in transit to and from the Cultural Council for Palm Beach County
  • The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County cannot store artwork for a later pickup; artwork must be picked up on the designated de-installation days.

About the Guest Curator

Juliana Forero is an independent arts professional, founder and director of Nomad Art Projects. In her role as consulting curator of contemporary art for the City of Pompano Beach, Juliana coordinates the art exhibitions for Bailey Contemporary Arts, Historic Ali Cultural Arts, and the Pompano Beach Cultural Center. A native of Colombia, Juliana Forero worked as the Director of Education for Houston Center for Photography prior to relocating to South Florida. Her doctoral dissertation researched the role of the artistic community in the revitalization of the South Bronx, while working in the development department of the Bronx Museum of the Arts.

Juliana holds a Ph.D. in Arts Education, a MA in Arts Administration and a Museum Studies Certificate from Florida State University. Prior to these achievements, she received a BFA in Visual Arts from Universidad de los Andes in Colombia, a Certificate in Portrait Photography from the Tecnológico de Monterrey, and a Certificate in Graphic Design from Universidad Nacional Autónoma de Mexico.
