Call to Artists: Cultural Council Biennial 2015

The Cultural Council is pleased to showcase art by professional Palm Beach County artists working in a wide variety of media in our next summer exhibition titled "Cultural Council Biennial 2015." Prizes will be awarded for Best of Show, 2nd and 3rd places as well a People's Choice award, an opportunity for patrons to vote for their favorite.

"ReGeneration City," a documentary film about "urban acupuncture," will screen at The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County Saturday, October 11 at 3 p.m. A panel discussion will follow. Urban acupuncture is the practice of creating small urban projects that act as a catalyst to revive the city neighborhoods. The film highlights community engagement and the transformation of a small Italian town.

On Sept. 29, kinetic artists, from around the country, will be installing their original pieces of art in preparation for the 2015 International Kinetic Art Exhibit and Symposium, scheduled for Feb. 6-8. The nine pieces, mostly powered by the wind and human interaction, will be installed on S. Seacrest Blvd. and along E. Ocean Ave. The contributing artists are Tom Brewitz (Minnesota); Lin Emery (Louisiana); Jeff Kahn (Pennsylvania); Paul Daniel (Maryland); John King (Colorado) and Bill Woods (Virginia).

Rapper Vanilla Ice headlined a groundbreaking collaboration of artists Monday night performing for nearly 1,000 representatives of Florida's tourism industry at the Boca Raton Resort and Spa. The Cultural Council of Palm Beach County designed and produced the concert, which included the Palm Beach Symphony and Ballet Palm Beach, to bring attention to the quality and diversity of art and culture in the county.

Cultural Council of Palm Beach County Highlights the Art of Going Green

There is much more to going green than putting water bottles or newspapers in a recycling bin. There is also great potential for creating beauty with the things we have discarded. That is one reason the Cultural Council has reached out to artists all over Palm Beach County to create with re-used objects in its two part exhibition "Re-purposed/Re-seen," August 29 to October 18.

The Society of the Four Arts Announces New Season

The Society of the Four Arts announces an exciting season of cultural programming, including more than 360 events that celebrate the “four arts” of art, music, drama and literature. This will be the first season under the leadership of David W. Breneman who was named as the organization’s new president and CEO last month. Dr. Breneman is a nationally recognized expert on higher education who served as university professor and Newton and Rita Meyers professor in economics of education and public policy at The University of Virginia before accepting his new position at The Four Arts. He will begin on Jan. 1, 2015, succeeding Ervin S. Duggan who announced his retirement in December of last year.

The Society of the Four Arts Announces New Season

The Armory Art Center has classes scheduled starting September 2 in Lake Worth in its new expanded location – The Armory Lake Worth Annex. The year-long lease of the 5,000 square foot building at 1121 Lucerne Avenue, to locals known as the shuffleboard courts, was awarded to the Armory by the Lake Worth CRA. This award gives the Armory the opportunity to further enhance the thriving and dynamic Lake Worth art community.

Orlando, FL- The Boynton Beach Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) received a SUNsational award for 1st place in the $49,999 and under Promotional Poster category entitled Catch a Free Event. The marketing collaboration between the Boynton CRA and Maas Media involved an innovative platform that focused on the CRA event calendar for more user-friendly public interaction. This effective marketing poster highlighted the calendar for Movies in the Park and Music on the Rocks.
